The Kou Sa project is located in Preah Vihear province in northern Cambodia’s Chep District, near the border with Laos.
Geopacific has explored Kou Sa for copper and gold since 2013, releasing an initial JORC 2012 compliant resource in July 2016. Economic studies indicate the potential for an open pit mining operation with a simple flotation plant to produce a copper-gold-silver concentrate.
The project benefits from low costs, impressive logistics and flat topography. The operating environment is highly cost-effective with hydro-electric, grid power and fibre optic cable running along the bitumen highway to the campsite, located within five kilometres of the proposed plant site. The rail and road infrastructure provides easy access to international ports and airports.
Early exploration led to numerous discoveries, consistently producing wide zones of high-grade mineralisation near-surface.
Kou Sa’s initial resource was used to gauge the inventory of mineralisation at two of the most advanced prospect areas, Prospects 150 and 160. The majority of the resource is within 70 metres of surface with favourable, shallow dipping geometry (see figure x). A high proportion of the mineralisation falls into the JORC indicated category with a high proportion of the resource expected to convert to reserves.
Metallurgical testwork demonstrated copper, gold and silver recoveries in the high nineties (%). The copper-gold-silver concentrate produced has no deleterious elements making Kou Sa’s concentrate a product that is highly sought after in international markets.
Favourable economics highlighted in metallurgical and process studies indicated that a large portion of the mineralisation can be mined. The initial JORC resource estimate of 51,000 tonnes of copper equivalent at 0.4% Cu Eq. lower cut-off for Prospects 150 and 160:
Prospect 150 and 160 form a portion of the overall inventory with mineralisation from other prospects yet to be moved into the resource base.
Potential to expand the project further is indicated by the numerous targets and drill tests which have produced zones of high-grade mineralisation including; 5m at 128.64 g/t Gold and 4.01% Copper.
